Crew: Geoff, Peter, Tunch

Marine Forecast: Southerly 15 knots. Becoming southeast 10 knots this morning, and rising to 15 knots about the south coast this afternoon. Becoming northeast 10 knots everywhere this evening. Sea slight. Fair visibility in morning showers, then fine.

Departed 1020 hrs from Chaffers Marina with No.1 Genoa and Mainsail and did some practise tacking to Evans Bay with Tunch (who was commemorating the 80th anniversary of the death of Atatürk), tying up at the wharf at 1120 hrs.

Peter joined us at Evans Bay and we signed on for the race with course confirmed as 1245 hrs warning with downwind Start to Falcon Shoal (starboard rounding) and back to The Evans Bay Finish Line.

The race started pretty well for us on a starboard tack and we hoisted our middle weight spinnaker and sailed towards Point Halswell at up to 7 kts in the 15 kts southerly. As we rounded Pt Halswell we were a bit too slow to hoist the Genoa and drop the Spinnaker and consequently we lost a few places as two of the non-spinnaker boats passed us (Wakarere and Whistler III).

We then headed south to Falcon Shoals close-hauled averaging 4.5 kts in the 15 kts southerly. Rounded Falcon Shoals at 1335 hrs and back
to Pt Halswell on a beam reach at about 6.5 kts and then close-hauled at 4-5 kts back to the Finish line tacking first in Balena Bay. On the second tack we found we were gaining on Wakarere (I believe) and on the last tack opposite Greta Point we overtook her to pass the Finish Line at 1423 hrs.

Dropped Peter off at Evans Bay at 1435 hrs and Tunch and Geoff motored Halo back to Chaffers Marina arriving at 1508 hrs.
