Our first race for Halo! "Pub to Club" Race. Days Bay Pavilion to Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club.

Crew: Peter, Eduardo, Jim, Murray, Helen, Geoff

Forecast: Variable light winds, fine day.

We motored across the harbour to Days Bay (due to almost zero wind) and rafted up at the jetty with Coriander and Temptation. Did the crew registration and had lunch at the Pavilion and at the start time (1315 hrs) our allocated runner, Peter, drank the pint and raced to the boat and we started the race! We drifted in the doldrums for the first 45 mins resorting to paddling with the oars at times to keep some motion. At that stage it looked like the sea scouts in their row boats were going to beat us!

At 1400 hrs the race organisers announced on Ch.77 a change of rules. All boats were permitted to use any propulsion available to them (including motors) as far as Point Halswell. Off we went at full throttle passing a few boats. After passing Point Halswell the northerly picked up and we hoisted the spinnaker. All went very well and we cruised down to the Evans Bay club house with about 6 kts tail winds. We were surprised though to see Temptation pass us under motor power. We tied up at the wharf outside the clubhouse and Peter jumped off the boat and rushed in to drink his final pint and finish the race at approx 1500 hrs.

We sailed back to Chaffers and then met up at the Evans bay clubhouse for the prize giving. Halo didn't get a mention (although Temptation surprisingly got third prize for the cruising division - cheats!) but Peter won a spot prize.

A great first race for Halo with a fantastic team.
