Marine Forecast: Variable 5 knots, becoming southerly 10 knots about the south coast for a time this afternoon. Sea slight. Fine spells.

Crew: Joanna, Graciela, Geoff

Departed Chaffers at 1033 hrs. Winds almost non-existent to start with so we motored with the Mainsail to Pt Jerningham where we started getting some of the southerly and hoisted the No. 1 Headsail.  Joanna was doing a great job on helm and by the time we cleared Pt Halswell a good 7-10 kts breeze had picked up and we circumnavigated Makaro/Ward Island at speeds up to 6 kts.

Picked up the club mooring at 1223 hrs and were just preparing lunch when a young family on a 31' yacht "GunMetal" arrived and asked if they could raft up. www.yachtingnz.org.nz/boat/gun-metal
They  launched their dinghy but forgot to tie it up so off it went scooting across the harbour and the skipper had to made a quick dash in his paddleboard to catch it!

After lunch we launched our dinghy and rowed on to the the island. Had a nice time exploring the beach on the east side of the island.

Returned to Halo, dropped the mooring at 1345 hrs, and made a fast return to Wellington with the steady southerly breeze up to 10 kts. Clocked up speed up to 6.7 kts SOG with Graciela on the helm.

Arrived back at Chaffers Marina at 1440 hrs. Very hot!
