Marine Forecast:  Southwest 15 knots. Easing to variable 5 knots. Sea slight. Fine.

Crew: Lee & Karyn, Jo, Sam, Ruby, Graciela, Geoff

Departed Chaffers Marina 1150 hrs after completing the safety briefing. With light southerly winds and due to presence of first-timers, purposely underpowered the boat with the No. 3 Headsail together with the Mainsail and headed across the harbour towards Somes Island. Wind petered out and speed was only 3 to 4 kts so ran on engine the last stretch at 6.5 kts until we reached the leeward side of the island and dropped the anchor at 1310 hrs.

After lunch aboard we took Halo over to the DOC jetty and dropped Karyn, Jo and Graciela off to explore the island. They discovered a tuatara! The rest of us took the boat back to the anchorage and enjoyed playing about on the dinghy, swimming and cleaning algae off the hull.

Departed Somes Island 1700 hrs and after 30 mins of slow sailing we changed to the No1. Headsail and picked up speed to average 6 kts tacking home in a south easterly headwind. At 1830 hrs we turned on the engine to motor the rest of the way home arriving at Chaffers at 1850 hrs.

A beautiful day for enjoying Wellington Harbour with a great crew!
